I just interviewed with a company,
GHR Systems today. They're located in Chesterbrook which is great for me. They do Lending Origination software for the mortgage industry. (Now ask me what that means)
They seemed really interested in me. Does that mean that they're desperate? Maybe. ;)
One of the things that impressed me about them, was they had a little pre-screening phone interview in which they actually asked me questions about object-oriented design and how I would approach specific problems. It kind of took me off guard. I hadn't come to expect that in a phone interview. It was very on-the-spot. Looking back, I could have answered one or two questions better, had I been given some time to think about them. Some of those questions really intrigued me.
Evidently they were impressed at least to te point where they wanted to set up a face to face. Cool. I went to the face to face today, very prepared, had my application filled out ahead of time, read up a little on the company. I was a touch late because of traffic. It was flooding so traffic was backed up about fifteen minutes, but not bad.
I think I interviewed very well. They seemed to like me. They did some more OO questions, asked me architecture questions, approach questions. They didn't ask me anything personal, which kind of put me on alert. Most companies, if they're interested, will ask you about your personal life, or start orienting you with their architecture. If they're not, they just try to get through the interview as fast as possible, simply out of courtesy. I was relieved when they started demonstrating some of their architecture and asked me what I would do in some situations. I didn't even get asked about the fact that I don't have a degree until I was walking out the building. And it seemed like they understood my situation. They didn't even blink.
After the interview, I was driving home. I guess I had the stereo up a little loud because I didn't hear the phone ring. No I had it off for the interview. I pulled into the Giant in Phoenixville to get some dinner and things, and I decided to give Finny Phillip at Spherion (my recruiter) a call just to let him know how things went.
Well shit, in the fifteen minutes it took me to drive home from Chesterbrook, they had called my recruiter and extended an offer. Holy shit. I know I'm a bad-ass, but damn that was fast. Well shit, I jumped on that. I'm going to wait until I get my offer letter in the mail and then I'm gigving Weston two weeks notice.
